Our contemporary rounded rectangle design in choice koa wood, handmade in our Big Island shop.
The heirloom craftsmanship promises many years of treasured service.
The Ilima comes with the stylist's choice of a straight nylon pin in the pneumatic head.
Please note that there is a vent hole in the pneumatic head. The "puka" (hole) is part of the design of the pnuematic head. It allows the brush head to breath and flex as the bristles are pulled through the hair.
Each brush is unique in its color and figure and is finished in an extremely durable marine grade varnish.
As your brush ages it is possible to replace the head with a new one, but it is necessary to send the brush back to us.

I bought this brush for my mom's birthday and it is absolutely stunning! She loves it so much she has me convinced to buy my own. Plus, I love that it reminds us of vacation. Thank you for making such beautiful pieces!
I really enjoy the straight nylon pins in this brush. I get a nice head scratch and massage every time I brush my hair. And the brush works great, too! I just bought my second one for travel.
My favorite hairbrush for years, beautifully replaced
I purchased one of these brushes over 10 years ago in Hawaii. The one I bought had no handle and so was the perfect brush for my small purse. Further, the Ilima head was the absolute best brush I've ever discovered for my thick, curly hair (most pin brushes have a knob at the end that catches and tears). I've treasured that brush ever since and lived in fear of losing it. I finally tracked down the wonderful people at Hamakuma who made me a perfect copy (actually an improvement on the original, the piece of wood was amazingly, even more beautiful, thank you!!). I highly, highly recommend this brush for anyone with curly hair, and thank Hamakuma for making me so happy :). It's an heirloom piece that both of my curly-haired children love to borrow!
I've gotten almost all of my daughters/daughter in laws hairbrushes now! They are so beautiful, and I love buying local and supporting anyone who lives in beautiful Hawaii! They made wonderful Christmas gifts!
